Flexible Learning Opportunities Directory.

GM Power

GM Power is a local work based learning programme aimed at year 10 and 11 students.
Students will follow an NVQ level 1 o equivalent in their chosen occupational area, over a 2-year period.
The courses are mainly 1 day per and will involve the student attending a training provider, college or work placement.
The cost to the school is £250 per student per academic year.

Entry Requirements:

We are looking for students who are motivated, committed and enthusiastic. For some courses students may need to sit a test.

The cost to the school will be £250 per learner per year.

If you wish to put forward any pupils please complete all sections off the attached application forms. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and is to assist your application only. Places will only be granted depending upon interview and avilability of work placements (not upon academic, medical or any other grounds).

Due to the high demands for places, in each local autority, we can not guarantee any places.

Easter Break Schools to return application to Manchester Solutions
First Week After Easter Break GMPower to forward application forms to Training Providers. Training providers to circulate list of interview dates/names direct to each school co-ordinator and copy to GMPower.
May School SATS's are the first two weeks in May. Training providers to interview the last two weeks of May.
Jun Training providers to inform GMPower and school of outcome of interview

The course will teach you the basics of mechanics and will cover repairing tyres, health and safety, identifying faulty components and removing and replacing components.
Assessement will take place in the garage, supported by the theory elements covered in the training centre.

Age: Age range: 14-16

Time: normal working hours of garage

You will learn the basic skills of hairdressing such as shampooing and customer care. The course is assessed by portfolio production and observation of skills. You will also have to complete question papers nad written assignments.
The course includes industrial placement and will be an integral part of the programme over the 2 year course.

1)Radio Production & Presenting:
Students will engage in a range of activities including presentation, music production, research and development of musical scores to produce their own music.
Assessement: students will be required to build a portfolio of evidence
2)Video Production:
Students will be able to produce/broadcast quality films, promotional dvds nad music videos using the latest digital cameras and industry standard editing facilities.
Assessement: students will be required to build a portfolio of evidence
*initially students will attend the training centre to develop the required skills and will be later placed in a work-based environment.

The course will cover sites operations, including painting, tiling, joinery, briclaying and plastering. This is a practical course but there will be an end knowledge test. Students will be based in the training centre which is set up as a work-based environment.
